Gaffer: Greg Griggs
Age: 44
Greg took over managerial reigns from Frenchy in the summer, Greg was once a tough tackling centre back and has brought that side to his management. Everyone in the squad is scared of him except Matt Ramsay who wants to fight him in the boxing ring. Greg is never quite happy with the performances despite the fact Abbey have won more than they have lost recently - which is always a good thing as it means we can only ever improve our game.
Richard French - Assistant Gaffer / Chairman / Secretary / Defender
Squad Number 23
Apperances: 0
Goals: 0
Frenchy founded Abbey United Sundays from the current IFA league team playing on Saturdays, but took little involvement in the team until two managers came and failed, taking charge of the team mid-way through the season in 2011. He immediately led the team to the division 2 cup final , and the team moved up the league to finish in 4th place, gaining promotion to division 1, also thanks to a number of personal changes. Frenchy handed over the team management to Greg over the summer. On the pitch, Frenchy is registered and likely to be used an an emergency defender probably during the winter months - Frenchy also has the best goals per minute ratio in the side last season.
Ben Faulkner - Defender
Squad Number 2
Apperances: 3 (+3)
Goals: 0
Age 19
Ferret is one who is yet to play a game due to work commitments,a right back by nature, Ferret was an established member of the team last year until his work commitments started coming in. A tough tackler and works hard at training and is always very positive. Ferret needs to work hard to get into the side, and turning up to games will be a good start to that process.
James Denton - Defender
Squad Number 3
Apperances: 3
Goals: 0
age 19
James Denton, well, um, nah, nothing good to say here.
George Blackwell - Defender
Squad Number 4
Apperances: 5 (+2)
Goals: 0
Age: 19
George McAuley is a centre back who seem's to think hes a left-back right-back centre-mid and striker, although having his only performance at right back in pre season George is very unreliable working nearly every weekend and yet to play a game this season. Despite this he turns up to every training session and is determined to play a game at some point before christmas.
George is our most qualified referee too, and always knows best!
Chris Duck - Defender
Squad Number 5
Apperances: 0 (+1)
Goals: 0
Age: 26
Chris Duck is currently away on an overseas scouting trip in Australia, Ducky has played for Abbey since Day 1, and is one of the teams most consistant performers, you always know what you'll get from Ducky, and is very proud whenever he heads the ball, having not done so until he was 25. Ducky will have to work very hard when he returns in January, though the team will be better with him around.
Simon Webb - Midfielder
Squad Number 6
Apperances: 15 (+1)
Goals: 16
Age: 19
Swebby is a lightning quick winger who is one of the quieter members of the squad. Nobody had actually heard Swebby talk until this season but he has now said 5 different words already this season. Every now and again Wwebby will pop up with an absolute wonder goal that even Ronaldo would be proud of. He also is one of the hardest working players on the pitch tracking back and then shooting off to join in the counter attack, and is comfortable in any position on the pitch.
Craig Fox - Forward
Squad Number 7
Apperances: 13
Goals: 5
Age: 30
Craig is our current team captain and was worried at the beginning of the season that he would get limited chances in the squad, but has been pretty much ever present to the strike force. Although he hasn't scored many goals he does all the leg work to get the goals by spending most of the game in midfield using his 6 ft 7 height to his advantage. Craig is currently becoming a celebrity in the geek world and is still owing Greg an iPad which is the only reason he is captain.
Tom Muncey - Midfielder
Squad Number 8
Apperances: 11 (+1)
Goals: 0
Age: 23
Muncey has played for Abbey from the clubs foundation and is one of the a handful of original signings that is still within the squad, ever present in midfield. Muncey is fast improving a habit of moaning at people which has seemed to be cut down this season due to being threatened with being on the bench, and the fact he's now scared of the manager. Muncey usually pops up with a wonder pass in each game. Muncey is the worst timekeeper in the squad, regularly late for training and matches.
Ash Griggs - Defender / Midfielder
Squad Number 9
Apperances: 15
Goals: 7
Age: 18
Ash is only in the team because he is the managers son and otherwise wouldn't be anywhere near the starting line up! Ash is one of our more versatile players who has played in nearly every position since signing for Abbey United under the initial management before leaving because of said management, then rejoining the team under Frenchy mid way through the season last year. A solid right back who has great technique and has also played up front recently too scoring regular goals.
Dan Green - Forward
Squad Number 10
Apperances: 3 (+7)
Goals: 2
Age: 25
Dan spends 90% of the time he plays on the floor appealing for penalties and freekicks has played the role of super sub well this season. Dan scored regularly during pre-season, and is the first to comment about the amount of assists he has created. Dan is hoping to progress from super-sub to a regular position as the season goes on.
Ash Hunt - Forward
Squad Number 11
Apperances: 9 (+3)
Goals: 4
Age:18
Ash was one of the last people to join the Gregolution and was one of Gregs personal signings, lightning quick and can seem to score impossible goals, Ash is yet to master scoring open goals and one on ones. Ash is expected to break well into double figures and reach around the 20 mark. Seemingly injury prone as Ash hasn't been able to play since the 2nd game of the season, Ash will be itching to get back into the team when his 'injury' clears up.
Matt Ramsay - Midfielder
Squad Number 12
Apperances: 2 (+4)
Goals: 0
Age:23
Abbey's very own Yossi Benayoun, Matt is well known as a player who comes out with moments that even Ronaldo would wonder how it's done and always seems to score wonder goals, but then there are moments such as when Matt has fallen over the ball whilst trying to kick it (because the FA made balls alot heavier this year). He also wanted to remind everyone that he is 2 time WWE Heavy weight champion of the world and this is why he never loses a shoulder barge, hes also a professional diver. Matt is the teams hardman, and will be well used in more physical encounters.
Joe Robinson - Midfielder
Squad Number 14
Apperances: 14 (+1)
Goals: 12
Age: 19
Joe is one of the new summer signings, a very quick striker who tends to spend too much time pondering on the ball, Joe bagged a hatrick during our first league game and has set up a hatful in other games, including a wonder freekick in a recent league game with Long Road. Despite the fact he spends most of his time farting in public or at nando's or the gym, Joe brings good banter to the squad and has been a good addition to the squad.
Reece Stafford - Defender
Squad Number 15
Apperances: 14
Goals: 1
Age: 19
Reece is one of the newboys to the squad signing during the summer, Reece is fairly new to football and plays centre back though if you watched him play you could hardly notice he's not played in a number of years, as he is comfortable with the ball at his feet and wins most balls in the air, mostly known for wearing vests to training and nicknamed pauly D by most of the squad, reece is hoping to keep his centre back partnership with chappers going for the rest of the season despite a big amount of competition
Ryan Johnson - Defender
Squad Number 16
Apperances: 12 (+2)
Goals: 4
Age 18
Johnno is well known in the team for an interesting taste in girls, and despite the fact he has a full face of hair and fro and looks about 40 he is actually one of the younger members of the squad. His body also seems to think hes about 40 as he already has arthritis limiting his ability at times. Johnno seems to think of himself highly as a striker but is always played at centre back for the 20 minutes or so he can manage before his body gives way.
Leon Martin - Midfielder
Squad Number 17
Apperances: 1 (+8)
Goals: 0
Age: Ninjas have no age.
Leon is one on the harder working members of the side, strong in positioning and on the ball. Leon brings quality banter to the squad and is apparently a Ninja but we wouldn't know, continually reminds Greg on the sidelines that he is a top quality striker who if comes on will do whatever it is that is needed to change the game. Another of the sides apparent hard men, Leon claims he can play in any position and is a useful member of the squad.
Samy Bidi - Midfielder
Squad Number 19
Apperances: 0 (+4)
Goals: 0
Age:
Rich White - Defender
Squad Number 20
Apperances: 3 (+1)
Goals: 0
Age: 31
Rich signed for Abbey United during the 2012 January transfer window in a controversial move from The Dobblers FC. Rich was thrown straight into the team at right-back, and has settled well into the side, enjoying being surroundedf by players with the mythical long lost gift known as pace, something he is slightly lacking. Well known to many of the Abbey United players before signing, Rich knows his role well, get control of the ball, and pass it to someone else fast. As the oldest player in the club, Rich will be looked at to bring experience to the side. Not shy of a tackle, and totally defence minded, Rich is a welcome addition to a back 4 that is performing well.
Cameron Walker - Midfielder
Squad Number 21
Apperances: 1 (+9)
Goals: 0
Age: 18
Cameron is another player who joined during the close season, one of the last to join, and scored in his Abbey United debut during pre-season . Another hard-working player, an ever present at training, Cameron works hard in training and will be hoping to catch the managers eye.
John Chapman - Defender
Squad Number 26
Apperances: 16
Goals: 1
Age: 20
Chappers was last seasons top goalscorer, who has now decided he is a centre back, although since Chappers has been at the back our goal leaks have seemed to come to a stop, forming an awesome partnership at the back with Reece. Chappers, you would think, has the longest trips to games, regularly one of the last to turn up despite the fact we train and play in his back garden! Chappers is another who can play in several positions, even in goal, and is an important player in the team.
Mark Bentley - Defender / Midfielder
Squad Number 30
Apperances: 10 (+2)
Goals: 0
Age: 30
Bentley is one of the older members of the squad who loves nothing more then going out and having a beer, and often brings his personal driver to games.Bentley is a centre back by trade who likes nothing more then to try play his way out of danger( which normally results in more danger), and recently we have discovered Bentley can play at left-back having worked his way into the team. Good in the air, and strong on the ball, Bentley will be an important player for Abbey this season.
Chris Cooper - Goalkeeper
Squad Number 83
Apperances: 7
Goals: 0
Age: 28
Coops
is a rock solid goalkeeper, Club captain, Team vice-captain, although
he still acts every bit as skipper, continually talking to the defence
and shouting at everyone he can. Coops signed for Abbey towards the end
of last year from Fulbourn, and helped shore up the team at the back
coming in mid way through our cup run.. Probably the best Goalkeeper in
our league and most other sunday leagues, county leagues and premier
leagues, Coops gives everyone at the back alot of confidence. Coops can
often be heard shouting non stop at the team, often Squeeze or Get Out.
Dom Baldock - Defender / Midfielder
Squad Number 89
Apperances: 6 (+3)
Goals: 0
Age: 21
Dom is a tough tackling player who can play in many positions usually at fullback, although he does well to play more then 20 minutes due to being booked or sent off. Having missed the start of the season thanks to suspension, Dom is another who is working hard to temper down frustrations on the pitch! Dom has taken full advantage of injuries to cement his place at the back following his return, Dom is a strong tackler and has a good eye for a long pass.
Gareth Thomas - Midfielder
Squad Number 93
Apperances: 11
Goals: 0
Age 18
Gaz is a tough tackling centre midfielder, who is a big fan of vaseline and yellow cards! Gaz's strengths include picking up any loose balls to be won, and despite not being a ball playing centre mid, Gaz breaks up play well. Gaz is least favourite for the fair play award, and is also the player most in debt to the club.
